Naugatuck River Greenway Community Workshop #2
Community Workshop #2 was held last Wednesday, September 16th at Kennedy High School. It was attended by approximately 100 people.
Jeff Olson from Alta Planning + Design presented a detailed description of the recommended draft alignment for the proposed greenway (see link below for presentation PDF). This alignment came after the evaluation of six potential alignments along the river corridor. These options were presented to the Greenway Advisory Committee in early August, summarized in a Republican American article the following day (see link below).
In addition, there was a special presentation by Bob Searns, one of the foremost experts on greenway trail planning and design in the US. As board chair of American Trails, he spoke about his experiences overcoming the challenges posed by the development of the Platt River Greenway in Denver as well as other projects (see link below for presentation PDF).
After Mr. Searns’ presentation, the community had the opportunity to break up into smaller groups and make comments on the recommended alignment as well as offer ideas for design elements to introduce into the trail.
